Concrete Bunny Topiary in Vintage Tile Soup Can DIY

Supplies

Wooden Bunny

1 Dowel Rod 12″

White Chalk Paint

Baking Soda

Gray Folk Art Paint

Home Decor Wax in Brown

Tools

1″ Thick Paint Brush (or anything you have on hand)

Glue Gun

You will start with any wooden bunny – I found mine for $3 at Dollar General. I pick up these little wooden bunnies often because they are great for this project as well as for many other crafts!

You will next need your white chalk paint and baking soda and mix it in a little dish or plate.

Although I do not have the exact measurements you want the paint thick and chunky so you can really give this bunny a concrete look. I only needed a little bit of paint because I was working with a 6 inch by 3″ bunny.

Paint it all over and let it dry completley.

First you will do a gray coat of acrylic paint and wipe it off and then you will add your home decor brown wax right after the gray. I was unsure if I wanted to use the brown wax but I feel it added just the right worn look to the bunny!

I used a damp cloth to wipe of the gray paint first and then the same same cloth to wipe of the brown wax paint.

Next you will glue with a glue gun your dowel rod on the back.

While the dowel rod is drying your can start your topiary base. This part is so fun and I CAN NOT get enough of this Ballet Slippers Waverly Chalk paint color! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

From Dollar Tree I pick up a couple squares of this green floral foam and cut it to fit into my standard size soup can.

I stuck my dowel rod with bunny on top down in the foam.

I added some green moss that I got from Dollar Tree and added that to the top of the green foam.

To secure the green moss in place I used some floral pins I had on hand. You will only need 2 or 3. You can also use your glue from your glue gun as another option if you do not have floral pins.

I added a piece of jute rope to tie around the bunny’s neck and stuck a button in the middle of the bow on his neck.

I think the jute rope accent and button add just the right touch to him don’t you?? I added a couple artificial bird eggs in the moss too. This added a little color and made another nice touch to him!
