Do you want to give your kitchen a vintage chic look, but don’t want to spend a fortune on expensive kitchen accessories? Upcycling old soup cans into vintage tile canisters is a great way to add a touch of character to your kitchen while creating something unique. In this blog post, we will explore the process of turning your regular soup cans into vintage tile canisters and creative beautiful accents to your home for the holidays. So, let’s dive in and learn how to create beautiful tile canisters from scrap metal and give your home a unique look!

Supplies Needed:

  • Soup Cans
  • Wall Tile from Dollar Tree
  • Acrylic Paint (Cardinal Red Folk Art)
  • Acrylic Paint or Chalk Paint in Black
  • Paint Brush
  • Glue Gun
  • Paint Brush
  • Scissors

To start make sure all the paper and glue is off the cans so it is a smooth and clean surface. Also clean inside the cans. Then I measured how big of a piece of the tile I would need and where to cut it by lining it up with my can. Another way it to measure it out. I marked it on the back so the Sharpie would show on the front.

And used a ruler to draw a straight line so my cut was even.

After my glue gun was hot and ready I started with the first couple inches of the can and glued the one end of the tile on and worked my way around. I would glue a bit and stick the tile on it, glue a bit and stick the tile on it until I was all the way around to the end. I made sure that the end piece was glued down tight so it wouldn’t unravel.

I painted the first can with one good coat of the red paint. Let it completley dry.

Then I added one coat of the black paint over top of the red.

With a damp paper towel I wiped off the black right after I painted it to give it the aged vintage look. Note: Make sure you don’t let that black layer dry or the vintage technique will not work.

Next I gathered some greenery off some pines I had in my yard as well as some pine cones and filled the canisters. I thought the variety of evergreens set off the red of these canisters just perfectly.

I tried them on my entry way table, I tried them on an end table and I even accented them with my wine cork reindeer that you can see in this post here how to make the one!

I also set it with my jeweled Christmas tree picture because it accented the red jewels and really brought the colors of the my tree.
