DIY Candy Corn Cinnamon Broom Ornament

Transform a simple cinnamon broom into a charming fall decoration with this easy candy corn-inspired paint technique! This adorable ornament combines the warm scent of cinnamon with festive autumn colors, making it perfect for hanging in your home or gifting to friends.

Materials You’ll Need

  • Cinnamon broom (I used Kirkton House Cinnamon Broom)
  • Acrylic paints: white, yellow/gold, and orange
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • White fabric ribbon
  • Black ink pad and letter stamps
  • Red wooden beads
  • Wire or string for beads
  • Optional: white fabric for ghost decoration

Step 1: Prepare Your Broom

Start with a natural cinnamon broom. These are typically available at craft stores during the fall season. The natural brown color will serve as the base for our candy corn design.

Step 2: Gather Your Paint Colors

Choose your paint colors carefully. For an authentic candy corn look, you’ll need:

  • White for the tip
  • Yellow or gold for the middle band
  • Orange for transitioning to the natural brown base

I used FolkArt Multi-Surface Satin paints, which work beautifully on the natural broom fibers.

Making Lines

I took a gold sharpie to draw out my lines…

I wanted to have a guide where my orange, white and yellow were going to go.

Step 3: Begin Painting

Start by painting the tip of the broom white. Work the paint into the bristles, ensuring good coverage. Don’t worry about being too precise – the natural texture of the broom adds to the charm

Step 4: Add the Yellow Layer

Once the white is complete, move down to create the yellow band. This middle section should be smaller than the other colors to maintain the classic candy corn proportions.

Step 5: Paint the Orange Section

Add orange paint below the yellow, blending slightly where the colors meet. The orange should transition naturally into the unpainted brown bristles at the base, completing the candy corn effect.

Step 6: Create the Fabric Tag

Cut a piece of white fabric into a tag or banner shape. This will become your decorative label.

Step 7: Stamp Your Message

This adorable stamp set is from Amazon – It is only $10 for the stamps – I have used these so many times for little crafts like this that just put the finishing touch on so many things! You can find the stamps here.

Using black ink and letter stamps, create your message on the fabric. I chose “happy fall” for a seasonal greeting, but you could personalize this with any message you like!

Step 8: Assemble the Decoration

Tie the stamped fabric tag onto the broom with a white ribbon bow. This adds a soft, elegant touch to balance the bold painted colors.

Step 9: Add the Berry Embellishment

I robbed a berry of one of my fall faux branches and added it to the top of the broom along with the natural twine hanger. These berries add a pop of color and extra autumn flair.

Your candy corn cinnamon broom ornament is complete! Hang it on your front door, from a cabinet knob, or display it with other fall decorations. The sweet scent of cinnamon combined with cheerful candy corn colors makes this a delightful addition to your autumn decor.

Tips for Success

  • Let each paint color dry slightly before adding the next to prevent excessive bleeding
  • Use satin or outdoor paint if you plan to hang your ornament outside
  • Experiment with different ribbon styles or messages to personalize your creation
  • Make several at once for gifts – they’re so easy and affordable!
  • Store carefully after the season to reuse year after year

This project takes about 30-45 minutes (plus drying time) and costs just a few dollars to make. It’s perfect for a fall craft afternoon or a fun activity to do with older children. Happy crafting, and happy fall! 🍂
