Are you looking for a fun Halloween project to get you into the festive spirit? Why not try your very own skeleton head decoration? This easy-to-follow guide will provide you with all the tips and tricks you need to create a unique skeleton head that will add some spooky flair to your home this Halloween!

Gather Supplies

  • Dollar Tree Skeleton Head
  • Pink, Black and White Chalk Paint
  • Baking Soda
  • 2 Thin Paint Brushes
  • Paint Tray
  • Black or Silver Glitter

Painting the Head Pink

I chose to paint my skeleton head pink for breast cancer awareness month and I wanted to do something a little different this year to add to my decor…. and who doesn’t love pink! I chose chalk paint because I wanted it to have a matte look, and chalk paint is thick and easy to work with.

Paint one good coat all over the head except for the eyes and nose. Let it dry for a 1/2 hours or so until completley dry to the touch.

Once the head is dry you can add a second coat if needed.

Optional Step

To add a little dimension to the pale pink I took my Magenta Folk Art Acrylic Paint and added a dab to the top of the head and blended it in while the light pink was still wet – see quick video for this step below…

The Glitter Eyes

First you will need a thinner paint brush like these. I used 2 but one will work also. This is the size of brushes for reference.

Paint the eyes and nose black. This step is easy to follow because you are just painting over what is already black on the skeleton.

While the black is still wet you will immediately pour the glitter in the eyes and nose. Shake the excess off onto a piece of paper.
