Step By Step Painted Turkey

I found this one-of-a-kind turkey at Goodwill – At time to time I like to stop in when I donated all of my own clothing and household items just to see what they may have available and I always seem to run into something that has the possibility to be something great! This time it was this turkey! I only saw him with bright beautiful colors!

I always start by wiping down the item I am going to paint to clean it and get rid of any debris before I paint it. Just make sure the surface is clean so the paint will adhere to the surface.

I used my Folk Art Real Brown paint for his body. I used one coat.
I painted the edges of that first layer of wood in the same brown paint.
Then with a pencil I drew out where I wanted the feathers to go. This was just used as a guide.
Then I took a paint tray and put a bit of about 15 different colors.
I started paint 1/2 inch feather stripes on him alternating as I got around both layers of the turkey feathers.
This is an optional step to just give your turkey body depth. I put a little tan paint in the middle of his body and blended it in with a larger thicker brush until it all bended nice together.

I added a beak, eye and goblet as shown above and this is what he turned out like

The last and final step is to add a light brush of gold paint on the edge of his body. This will show up beautifully over his brown. It just gives such a nice finishing touch when the light shines on him he has such beautiful character.

And he is complete, and you can find him a home in your home.

The colors are beautiful and vibrant just how I had envisioned him!

Another optional step is to spray him with a clear can a spray paint and give it one good coat and let it dry outdoors until the smell goes away. You can also use Modge Podge and it won’t be quite as smelly.
