Step-by-Step Guide

We are starting with painting with this beautiful color called Cashew that is a Waverly chalk paint.

You will only need one good coat but if you can still see the metal underneath you can do a second coat.

Once it is fully dry you are going to use the black paint to accent.

The trick to the accenting the truck is to make sure you have very little paint on your brush because you want just a light coat on all the raised edges.

You will use your smaller brush for this and brush lightly over all the raised edges of the sign. If you get too much in one area, just use a damp cloth to wipe it.

This black accent just gives the truck depth and dimension.

Next we are going to paint the full window in the back.

While the window is still wet take a little silver and paint a couple swipes with the paint brush – this is just going to give the window a little shine to it to make it more realistic. Silver is a great way to accent windows!

Paint the lights in with a tiny dab of red paint.

It looks SOOO cute the way it is just like this…..but my original idea was to add some fall flowers hanging out of the back of the truck.

So I grabbed a sprig of flowers also from Dollar Tree and cut off pieces with a wire cutter to make them easier to work with when I started gluing them on.

I glued the small cut off pieces onto the back of the top of the tail of the truck.

You may want to put the flowers in place before you start gluing everything on because if you have to move it the glue might take the paint off.

Next and final step is I really wanted a Thanksgiving word on there since I was going to be using it for the Thanksgiving season. I printed off the word “Thankful” in a script font on Word and printed it on a piece of orange card stock I had on hand. A pale green, ivory or a brown paper would have worked too.
And it is finished! I accented it with a couple little pumpkins and set it on my table.

It can also be hung on a wall or…..

On a door handle. These metal signs are green for hanging in smaller areas in your home!

Where will you put yours?

The Dollar Tree metal truck sign makeover is more than just a simple DIY project. It’s a reminder to look beyond the surface and see the potential in unexpected places. This project teaches us that with a little creativity and effort, we can turn something ordinary into something extraordinary. So why not take a chance and try your own makeover? As the saying goes, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” This small sign may just hold the key to unlocking your own hidden potential. Remember, every “before” has the potential to become an “after.” And who knows, your next project might just be a dollar store gem waiting to be discovered. As we close the door on this article, I leave you with the wise words of Maya Angelou, “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” So go forth and create, my friends. The possibilities are endless.
