The Pumpkin

Our first step is finding a pumpkin. It is important for this project that you get a large size plastic pumpkin with lights and if you can not find one with lights you can use a tea light inside the bottom of it. I got my light up pumpkin at Dollar Tree but if they are out or the season has passed you can find one on Amazon that is large like mine. You can use my Amazon link here for another great option!

The main material used for this project is this wall spackle! You can really get a realistic concrete look but giving the pumpkin a good layer and letting it dry until completley white. If you have never used wall spackle this pink spackle is so good because it turns white when it is dry – Easy Peasy!

Here is the link on Amazon if you want to have some ordered quick.

You can use a spackle tool to paint the plaster all over the pumpkin. I tackled the hardest side first which was the face because of the hole in the nose and mouth. I painted the first front part of his face and let it dry.

Once it is dry you can turn it over and paint the other side.

It was much easier putting plaster on the back side. I just smoothed everything out as evenly as possible and set it out to dry.

Once everything was dry I used sand paper or a sand block to smooth out the rough edges.

Working around the eyes and mouth.

Next you are ready for paint! I used a gray acrylic and white acrylic paint for this next step.

I painted everything gray and let it dry.

Then I took the white paint and only put a little on the brush and lightly brushed it all over the edges giving a little texture to this pumpkin. This really gives it a rustic concrete look.

I also added a little home decor wax to the pumpkin to give it some age. You can work with this until you get it to the depth of age that you would like.

If you get too much on in one area you can use a damp cloth to blend it out.

He looks so good when he is finished and you can set it outside or inside.

It looks so cute outside especially when it is lit up at night. If you get the one from Dollar Tree it looks so cute in all these colors.

I ended up bringing my pumpkin inside and put it on my buffet – It made such a neat accent with my white & orange pumpkins and fall vase.

In conclusion, creating a DIY concrete pumpkin is not only a fun and creative project, but it is also a great way to add a unique and personalized touch to your home decor. By following these simple steps and using your imagination, you can create a stunning pumpkin that will make a statement in any space. Remember, “pumpkins are like people, each one is unique and beautiful in its own way.” So why settle for a store-bought pumpkin when you can create your own masterpiece? Let your creativity flow and get ready to impress your family and friends with your DIY skills. Don’t forget to share your creations and inspire others to give it a try. Happy crafting!
