Supplies

Shadow box frame

White Chalk Paint

Paint Brush

Buttons

Glue Gun

Stem

Faux Greens

Distress Ink

Scrabble Letters

THE FRAME

You will want to find a shadow box type frame, so you have a strong backing to add your buttons.

I lightly sanded the back of the peach frame so the paint would adhere well.

Use one coat of white chalk paint to get a good solid white background.

Once the paint is dry you will get all your fall colored buttons and arrange them in a shape of a pumpkin. If you are as lucky as me to have gotten your grandmothers jar of buttons then this is the perfect craft for you! If not is is a great inexpensive link for some FALL COLORED buttons that are perfect for this project. You can see them here.

You can either draw out the shape of a pumpkin on the frame with a pencil to use as a guide or just start at the bottom left like I did. If you get a variety of buttons like in the Amazon link there are a lot of different shapes and sizes so you can put your pumpkin together like a puzzle. This is always the fun part for me!
Once you have them in place you can start gluing them down in their spot – making a few tweaks if needed as you go.
I love these Distress Inks and use them a lot more than I thought. I do really like the “Vintage Photo” stain color that I used in this project, but I really love and use all 4. Here is the link if you are interested in getting some too.
I used this Distress Ink on 2 spots on the frame. Once I finished my buttons, I wanted a stem, so I used a piece of driftwood I had left from another project and this fit perfect for the space I had between the top pf the pumpkin and the top of the frame.

Glue it on with a glue gun.

Grabbed some faux greenery that I had from a floral….

Accented the top of the pumpkin with the raffia straw and made a bow.

Then I used the Distress Ink again here. I lightly rubbed the whole edge of the frame. This really brought in the color of the brown buttons and just helped the look so much!

You have to make sure to let this dry. Once dry you can grab your scrabble pieces to make a fun fall word. I used the word Harvest. If you are looking for some crafty scrabble pieces you can use my link here.
You can place your letters first and then glue them down. I didn’t want mine perfectly straight and, in a line, so I jig jagged them a bit to give it a little more character.

I just think these scrabble piece wording add such a fun touch to these projects! I have used them for Valentines Day and other holidays, and they are adorable so I highly recommend getting some – If you are a crafter, you will use them!

And here it is! I think the touches of the green add such a beautiful fresh touch!

Creating your own button pumpkin is a fun and creative way to add a personalized touch to your fall decor. Not only does it provide a unique and budget-friendly option for seasonal decorations, but it also allows you to unleash your inner artist.

As we’ve learned, by following a few simple steps and using materials you may already have at home, you can transform a plain pumpkin into a work of art. So why not give it a try and see what kind of pumpkin masterpiece you can create? As the saying goes, “A little creativity goes a long way.” So gather your buttons, grab your pumpkin, and let your imagination run wild. Who knows, it might just become your new favorite fall tradition. And as the great Pablo Picasso once said, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” So go ahead and let your button pumpkin be your escape from the mundane and a source of joy for all.
